Selphie

A travelling, selfie taking robot built from old laptop parts

Selphie is a travelling interactive installation that takes pictures wherever it goes. It holds a camera at arms length and has a proximity sensor mounted in it’s shoulder. Whenever someone approaches within a set distance it begins a count down and takes a picture which it automatically uploads to its Flickr channel.

Selphie was our response to a commission by Marks & Spencer, who wanted a sculptural installation as part of their IT volunteering scheme – an annual event when the organisation’s ICT staff give their time to several community activities – exploring tech to engage older people, promoting STEM in schools (science, technology, engineering and mathematics ) and planting trees.
